Cogmed Training Review

Cogmed Working Memory Training Overview

Cogmed is a working memory training software program that is based on extensive research and methodologies developed through Sweden’s Karolinska Institute.

Cogmed provides several exercises for Working Memory improvement (both auditory and visual) which is important for learning and cognitive performance. Users are guided through about 30 training sessions with the help of a human personal coach, usually a licensed clinician.

Cogmed has been used to improve ADHD symptoms in both children and adults. The product comes in three versions: Cogmed QM for Adults, Cogmed RM for school age children, and Cogmed JM for pre-schoolers.

Cogmed Performance Scoring Methodology

Cogmed has a proprietary metric to track user performance, which is based on an aggregate score of the Cogmed training exercises. Note that Cogmed’s scoring metric will *not* be a useful comparison measure outside of the Cogmed environment.

Cogmed Pricing

Cogmed was purchased in July 2010 by Pearson Assessments, a unit of Pearson Education. It will be interesting to see how (or if) Pearson modifies Cogmed’s very high price point to appeal to a broader audience.

Current pricing from Cogmed’s clinical channel: $1,500 – $2,500 per training program, including clinician time.

A more cost effective approach can also be found with MyCognition Pro.

Readers can also try these free working memory tests and short term memory tests, and save your scores to track memory performance.
